Get Gemming!
Hello
everyone, Nathaniel back with another post on the blog! Today I’ll be continuing
on with a similar topic from my post last week, which was puzzles, and will be
talking about diamond painting! Now, of course its not real diamonds we will be
painting with, but little plastic beads that are placed on a surface. All the beads
have different colours, and are placed on specific corresponding letters to
create an image, much like a Paint by Numbers game.
There are
even sites where you can upload your own images and order a diamond painting
that is created from it! This could be a great way to spend time with a group
of friends or family by using a group photo to send in and then recreate
through the diamonds! Below are links to sites where you can purchase pre-created
diamond paintings and upload your own photos for diamond paintings.
I have been
unable to get to this as a project myself, but one of my friends has been doing
these recently and has really enjoyed it.
The paintings
are done by using an applicator to pick up the diamonds, and placing them on a
sticky surface that is initially covered by a plastic film. Now, similar to
puzzles, there are a range of sizes of diamond paintings. There are those that
can take less than an hour, and are considered very small. However, the larger
ones can become projects for this time indoors!
There are
two main types of diamond paintings, round drills and square drills (the “drills”
referring to the shape of the diamonds). The round drills are easier to apply
to the board, design, but also leave a sense of it being incomplete due to all
of the gaps in between. Meanwhile, the square drill paintings may be a bit more
irritating.
Once your painting is finished, be sure to keep it by perhaps hanging it up somewhere inside or storing all of your work together so you can look at it all when you're done!
